Paris is one of the great cities of the world and few people would decline to visit it. But one wouldn't want to make the financial, travel and time commitment to attend Silmo, the major international optical and eyewear show held in Paris every October, unless it was worthwhile from a business perspective. While Canadian participation in SILMO is relatively small, those who attended the 2004 show are delighted with the response their products received from the international community.
Michael Toulch, of Toulch Opticians in Montreal, took his new eyeglass concept to SILMO last October. It was his first time exhibiting in Paris. "The response was overwhelming," he says. "The French loved it and we're discussing a deal with a distributor who wants to build his marketing campaign around the collection. We also have interest or firm deals with distributors from Asia, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, England and Saudi Arabia. The booth paid for itself ten times over."
